Working with DU to plant some native grass and fencing 550 acres. Plan on putting up 3 or 4 wire high tensile fence with a couple wires hot.

Great thoughts and it sounds like an exciting thing to pursue.
As far as the fencing I would ask what type of cattle would be grazing there. Yearlings, or cow calf pairs?
Also is it along a road or out in the boonies? Reason I ask is because you can get by with less fence for yearlings like just a nice three wire with and…

Also I meant to say, I’ve seen soil turn for the better super quickly. I would say you could start noticing change within the first two years if grazed properly but yes the economical side could take 3-5. Of course the longer it’s done the better it will get 👍

Interesting stuff from yield monitor that really creates a lot of questions. 2024 we had 550 acres of PP due to wet spring. We planted cover crops on all of those acres 450 acres was the blend in the picture and the other 100 acres was strait oats at 90 lbs/ acre. The oats cover crop was our highest yielding corn in 2025.

That’s some very good stuff there David. I was always under the impression you need the extra nitrogen because your current crop was gonna need it sooner then what your cover crop could break down to give it to your new crop.

How do you increase Plant Growth Promoters in you soils? My tilled field has good levels of PGP’s but poor AMF the notill are just the opposite good AMF but almost no PGP’s. I would like to try and balance these two and haven’t found any info how to do this?

If you look real close you can see rows of camilina that grew sometime in December. Will it survive? Time will tell.

When planting cover crops this summer I ran out of the blend i was planting so seeded strait oats to finsh field. From the center of the picture to the right is strait oats which was hit hard with rust. The blend with oats in it did not show any rust on the oats. Not sure why, could it possibly been varity or is it something to do with…
