Interesting stuff from yield monitor that really creates a lot of questions. 2024 we had 550 acres of PP due to wet spring. We planted cover crops on all of those acres 450 acres was the blend in the picture and the other 100 acres was strait oats at 90 lbs/ acre. The oats cover crop was our highest yielding corn in 2025.

On the yield map below look at the green strip in the field with red and yellow all around. After looking at the base map and remembering that area was an area that either i ran out of cover crop seed or had a drill malfunction and no cover crop was planted in that area the corn yielded 30-50 bushels more. Why????

NDSU Dave Franzen always said when planting cover crops you need to add extra Nitrogen. Is this what possibly caused this or is there some negative interaction to certain species in the cover crop mix or is there something else that may have caused this?

Another interesting observation was the oat in the blend had very little or no rust and the strait oat cover was full of rust and was not very healthy. Corn in the strait oats was still the best corn yield the following year.
