One of my fields was damaged when a fire got out of hand in some neighboring CRP. All of the soybean residue was burned off on a good portion of the acres. Part of the field will be no-till corn. The other part will be no-till alfalfa.
Does anyone know of a good soil moisture/temperature sensor that I could get in order to monitor the differences between the burned and non-burned portions of the field?
Preferably something that has WiFi/cellular capability, or at least something that can log its data which I could download weekly?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I don't have a good sensor to recommend for this that would be inexpensive that would measure temperature and water content. Especially that would be wireless. That being said I should write an extension article at some point on sensors that can estimate soil temperature and water content. The high variability in soil water content and temperature across fields plus expensive price of the devices limits how widely used they are in field settings.
