I gave a previous soil report last weekend (soil frozen but could get about a 1-2 inch core). Today, while going for a sled ride, my son and I discovered several hole that were dug out. Cant be too much frost!!

I did take the snowmobile and soil probe out over tge last weekend to check soil conditions. There was about 16 inches of snow cover and I could only get the probe into the soil 1-2 inches and the hit frozen soil. So, I think due to recent warm air temps, the snow is granulating and water is consolidating at soil surface ready to infiltrate. The soil thaws from the top down and bottom up.

About 14 inches of snow cover, ground was frozen so I went where a radish was and picked a hole 8 inches deep. That is where I got through the frost. I had a 1/2 inch rod with me that I was able to push 4 more inches into the ground but it was pretty firm. I would think that when those radishes continue to decay this spring that water would be able to get by them and into the ground even if it is still frozen.
well Anthony out here we haven't taken a shovel but much of the ground that has been under snow cover is not froze step in posts still go in plenty easy. most of my covers where dead or no even up before the snow came so I haven't investigated out there but I imagine where allot of our snow in fields got to melt down it has frozen the top layers there our none cut grass areas and stripper stubble fields are full of snow and are accessible underneath
